SEX LINKED DISEASES

PRE IMPLANTATION SCREENING FOR SEX SELECTION
Pre implantation screening for sex selection is a scientific technology used to identify genetic defects in embryos created through in vitro-fertilization (IVF) cycles.
This procedure is necessary where both or one of the parents of a child (embryo) has a known genetic abnormality. However, this treatment is also used to diagnose fertility problems.
IVF has been used to reduce the number of children born with inherited diseases. So far it has recorded a 99% success rate.Sex linked diseases affect more males than females.Consequently,to avoid it, couples giving birth to boys with the disease have to find a way of giving birth to girls. With this technology, the doctor is able to make this happen by selecting the embryos without the affected sex chromosomes leading to the birth of a healthy child. This technology can also be used to assist couples with only boys or girls, to give birth to girls and boys respectively through the selection of embryos with the female XX chromosomes or male XY chromosomes.
Sex linked diseases are those inherited through one of the sex chromosomes, in most cases the X chromosome. There are two forms of sex linked diseases:X linked recessive diseases and X linked dominant diseases. The most common sex linked diseases are:Haemophilia –an individual has a problem with blood clotting.Duchenne-a muscular dystrophy i.e. muscle degenerative disease.
Females have the XX chromosomes and males have the XY chromosomes. A child inherits one chromosome from each parent, with the mother giving the chromosome and the father giving either the X or Y chromosome. If the father‘s fertilizing sperm carries the X chromosome, it’ll unite with the mother’s X chromosome to result in the XX pair ,which is a girl. If the father’s fertilizing sperm carries the Y chromosome, the resulting combination brings forth a boy. This means that it’s the man’s sex chromosome that determines a child’s gender.
An abnormality on the X chromosome of the mother results in a genetic related disease in the boy and not the girl. There are two reasons for this:Firstly, the mother always gives the male child the X chromosome and the father gives the Y chromosome.Secondly, in the case of a girl, she becomes a carrier but doesn’t get the disease. This is because the work of the defective X chromosome of the mother is carried out by the X chromosome from the father.
Girls always inherit the other X chromosome from their fathers and can only get the disease if both parents have sex-linked diseases.Women rarely get these diseases and end up being carriers who pass on the disease to their sons. Males have only one single X chromosome hence their susceptibility to the disease, since the X in the men doesn’t have a corresponding good gene in Y to cancel out the defectiveness.
Studies show that women with defective X chromosomes are very likely to pass it on to all their male children hence the IVF procedure.IVF involves a procedure of retrieving the eggs and the sperm, then fertilizing them in the laboratory. The resulting embryos are subjected to the Pre-Implantation Genetic Screening for sex selection to identify and transfer in to the woman’s womb only those that will result in the birth of a healthy baby.
DID YOU KNOW?
It is advisable for couples who want to give birth to girls that :the man and woman need to capitulate a few days to ovulation and then stop 24 hours before the onset of ovulation.
Y sperms move fast and die faster the X sperm that results in a girl. So if you have intercourse before ovulation, the Y or boy sperm would have long died by the time the egg is ready for fertilization. This means the X or girl sperms ,which can survive up to 3 days will be the only ones surviving to fertilize the egg.
For those who want a boy, the sex should take place at the onset of the ovulation and there after up to 24 hours after the ovulation-If relations occurs during ovulation, the likelihood of the child being a boy are high since the Y sperms move faster and reach the egg ahead of the X sperms.

Good Health with Nutritional Supplements

Nutritional Remedies for Depression

Most people opt for anti-depressants when feeling blue or tense. The fact of the matter is that the side effects of anti-depressants pose a greater danger than leaving depression unattended. The idea of nutritional supplements as depression remedies is gaining more approval by the day.
The fact that food can alter your brain's complex bio-chemistry is the reason why nutritional medicine works so well for depression.Recent studies show that the effects of Prozac - the most commonly used anti-depressant medication, are limited and this flaw has led to the consideration of natural approaches to depression.
Your brain, nervous system and neurotransmitters are all made from nutrients.Correcting nutritional deficiencies could help alleviate depression.
Anti-depressants are called selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors (SSRIs).They are meant to address the miserable feeling experienced by depressed persons.SRRIs keep serotonin ,often called the happy hormone ,in circulation by preventing it's break down.A depressed person is almost likely to be low in serotonin.By preventing it's breakdown,SRRI's don't actually raise serotonin levels but stall the breaking down.Since the rate of production of serotonin in depressed persons is low,a better alternative would be a protein derived supplement called 5-HTP(5 hydroxy-tryptophan).Like Prozac,it enhances the activity of serotonin, but it does this by producing more as opposed to preventing its breakdown.
Furthermore, unlike Prozac, there are no side effects such as insomnia, nausea, dry mouth, and loss of libido;not to mention the risk of suicide.5-HTP has been proven to be more effective in treatin depression than traditional anti-depressants.
Depression is also associated with unmotivated and apathetic feelings. While serotonin influences moods, its the neurotransmitter dopamine that influences motivation. The raw material for dopamine is an amino acid called L-tyrosine.Did you know contraceptive pills can lead to depression because they deplete tyrosine levels?
Another way to help balance your moods is through blood sugar control.A diet that's too high in sugar can make you more prone to emotional ups and downs. This is because the body absorbs sweet foods fast and causes your blood sugar and endorphin(feel good hormone)levels to rise.
The problem is that the surge is followed by a crash.Though it is normal to opt for more sugar products, this leads to more blood sugar crashes and wilder mood swings. To break the cycle, avoid very sweet foods altogether and opt for fruits to satisfy your sugar cravings.

Mysteries Of Sleep

Our bodies are synchronized with the 24 hour cycle of day and night through a biological clock known as the circadian rhythm. Our body temperature rises as it dawns and drops as it approaches dusk.
Altering one’s sleeping schedule throws the biological clock out of phase and the circadian rhythm is interrupted causing insomnia and a sort of jet lag.
There’s a biological rhythm during our sleep-a cycle of five distinct sleep stages we pass through during the night.
Stage 1 sleep which lasts about 2 minutes and in which you experience fantastic images. One can easily be awakened from this sleep.
Stage 2 sleep is characterized by a more relaxed state and periodic bursts of brain wave activity-it lasts about 20 minutes.
Stage 3 sleep lasts up to 30 minutes and it is hard to be woken from this sleep.
Stage 4 sleep is usually characterized by a deep sleep where we may talk or walk in our sleep and children are seen to wet their beds. After one hour of deep sleep you go back up the ladder through stage 3 to stage 2 and for some 10 minutes your brain waves become active, your heart rate rises, your breathing becomes rapid and your eyes dart around in momentary bursts of activity under your closed eye lids. This episode is the rapid eye movement sleep usually referred to as REM.
Although the motor cortex is active during REM sleep, it’s neural messages don’t reach your muscles, which are very relaxed-except for an occasional finger twitch, you are essentially paralysed. You can’t be easily awakened .REM is usually referred to as “paradoxical sleep”, since internally your body is aroused but externally your body appears calm.
The rapid eye movement announces the beginning of a dream. The common morning erection stems from the last REM period of the night which occurs before one awakens.
As the night wears on, this sleep cycle repeats itself and the REM sleep becomes progressively longer. An average night sleep consists of 100 minutes of REM sleep.
WHY DO WE SLEEP?
Sleep commands about a third of our lives. The major effect of sleep deprivation is sleepiness. Other effects are diminished immunity to disease, irritability, misperception and inattention.
In a few rare cases, brain diseased people have lost their ability to sleep and consequently died.
Sleep restores body tissues-during deep sleep the pituitary gland releases a growth hormone .As adults advance in age they release less of this hormone and spend less time in deep sleep.
It is recommended that a healthy human being should sleep for at least 8 hours. However, not every one needs 8 hours of sleep. Age is usually a determining factor in the amount of sleep one requires. Infants spend at least two thirds of their day asleep whereas the elderly barely sleep for more than 4-5 hours.
SLEEPING DISORDERS
1.Insomnia-a natural and adaptive response to stress characterized by an abnormal lack of sleep. The two common sought after remedies for insomnia are pills and alcohol and they aggravate the problem by reducing REM sleep. Moreover, when the use of pills or alcohol is discontinued, the insomnia worsens.
2. Narcolepsy-people with this disorder suffer periodic overwhelming sleepiness at the most inopportune times.
3. Sleep Apnea-a disorder where you stop breathing while sleeping. After an airless minute or so the sleeper begins to snort in the air for oxygen. This sequence is repeated all night. Children who don’t resume breathing suffocate and die of “sudden infant death” (SIDS).
4. Night Terrors-The person -often a child- might sit up or walk around, talk incoherently, experiencing a doubling of heart and breathing rates and suffer frightening images which are not remembered the following day.
TIPS TO AVOID INSOMNIA
-Relax before bed time.
-Avoid rich foods around bed time. Milk is good as it aids in the manufacture of serotonin, a neurotransmitter that facilitates sleep.
-Sleep on a regular schedule i.e. rise at the same time and go to sleep at the same routine time.
-Avoid naps.
-Reassure yourself that temporary loss of sleep causes no great harm-most of those who suffer insomnia, tell how they stay all night without shuttering an eyelid when they actually don’t remember falling asleep.

Essence of Water

Water is one of the precious gifts of nature. It is an essential and major component of all living things on earth.Water is one of the essential nutrients to humans.Though one can live for weeks without food, one can only survive a few days without water.
Water is versatile i.e.it can be used effectively both within and without. It can be used in liquid, solid or steam. It can be used hot, cold or lukewarm, depending on the need.
Water is the largest constituent of the human body.About 60 to 70% of the total body weight consists of water.
Functions
It helps in the absorption of food through the intestinal tract.
It keeps blood in a liquid state thus enabling easy circulation even in the tiniest blood vessels.
It maintains the body temperature constantly at 98.4 F in all weathers and keeps the skin moist and cold.
It keeps the mucus membrane moist and helps to secret different fluids in various glands of the body.
It helps the kidneys to remove unwanted body waste like urea and salt in the form of urine. It also helps in the removal of body wastes through lungs as water vapour, through skin as perspiration and sweat and to a small extent through the large intestine as faeces. It is estimated that as much as 37 gallons of fluids are daily filtered off from the blood and restored to the body by the kidneys, only when there is proper proportion of water in the blood.
Water Intake
Water consumption is mainly through drinking water, other fluids and the water content in the food consumed. Some of our common vegetables contain as much water as milk and even more.Thus,100 grams of melon, tomato and radish contain over 90% of water against only 87% of water contained in milk.
The body itself generates water by the combustion going on in the system.
The rate at which water is eliminated from the body must be replaced by its intake so as to maintain the balance in the system-Running and other strenous exercises cause a great loss by perspiration and through the lungs. This loss has to be replaced by a drink or food.
Any great variation in the normal quantity of water in the body interferes with the vital processes and causes acute distress.Loss of water occurs regardless of whether we drink or not.So if we dont drink enough water the blood thickens and the kidneys fail to deal with it efficiently. This may lead to accumulation of poisons and lead to death.
Symptoms such as headaches, nervousness, loss of appetite, digestive disturbances and many more irritations occur due to lack of the necessary amount of water in the body.
For the maintainance of good health,an adult should take eight to 10 glasses of pure, fresh water daily, whether one fells thirsty or not. This quantity is enough to flush the body and meet all internal needs. However,it is bad to drink excess of water since it weakens the kidneys and stomach.
Drinking water along with meals is not healthy,as it dilutes the digestion(gastric) juices and hampers digestion.Water should be taken half an hour before or one hour after a meal.Drinking a glass of water early in the morning after brushing your teeth,is also good for your health as it helps in saliva formation which together with useful enzymes helps in the effective cleaning of the intestinal tract.
Bathing
Invisible perspiration carries noxious substances with it and while the water evaporates, the poisonous substances are left on the skin surface.A bath is necessary not only to wash off these poisonous substances off the skin but also for keeping the skin in a healthy condition.
The essence of water is great. It is found to be the secret behind youthful skin, helps prevent dehydration and is the remedy for many disorders. It's scope is wide and it would be impossible to cover it within this short brief. However, one thing is certain, water is life.

Raw foods for longevity and good health

The food we eat has a profound effect on our health and longevity.Latest researches show that food can provide health, vigour and vitality, and free us from various diseases,or it can make us unhealthy and miserable.
Before the discovery of fire, man ate raw foods as provided by nature. After fire came into existence, man started cooking food.Cooking of natural foods led to their debasement and destruction.Further loss of nutrients started taking place when man started refining and processing natural foods. This has inevitably led to ill-health and variety of preventable diseases.Man can still save himself by avoiding too much reliance on unnatural refined foods ,processed foods and cooked foods.
Benefits of Raw Foods
Normal Functioning of the Body
Raw foods have certain nutritive constituents that serve as building material for the construction and renewal of cells, produce energy to put these cells into motion and give warmth to the body and supply raw materials to the specialized cells needed for their productive activities.Natural nutrition ,as provided by nature ,thus ensures the normal functioning of all body organs.Cooked foods force human organs to work at about three to four times their normal capacity, bring about premature changes in them, cause various ailments and shorten the life span. Those who eat raw foods make use of the digestive organs at about one fourth of their potential capacity. As a result, their organs are never overloaded or fatigued. The overloading of the digestive organs results in over working of several accessory organs like the heart, liver, and the kidneys. The additional work perfomed by these organs soon has the effect of tiring them out and putting them out of action prematurely. This eventually causes ill health and reduces the life span of a person by several years.
Balancing the body chemistry
The tissues and cells of the body are composed of 16 chemical elements. The balance of equilibrium of these chemical elements in the body is an essential factor in the maintainance of health and healing of disease. The acid-alkaline balance plays a vital role in the balanced body chemistry. All foods after digestion either leave an acid or alkaline ash in the body depending on their mineral composition.
The normal body chemistry is approximately 20 percent acid and 80 percent alkaline. To maintain this acid-alkaline balance,it is essential that one should eat 80% of alkaline forming foods and 20% of acid forming foods.Fresh, raw, uncooked fruits and raw vegetables are rich in mineral salts which are necessary for neutralizing acid waste products.Fresh fruits and raw vegetables are hereby called purifying foods. In cooking foods, the mineral salts are lost to a large extent.
Antioxidant Effects
Many of the health problems are due to the perversity of oxygen. So far, scientists have linked destructive oxygen reactions to at least 60 different chronic diseases, as well as to aging itself.
Raw foods like fresh fruits and raw vegetables, especially the deep colored ones, contain strong antioxidants. When these foods are consumed in liberal quantities, the antioxidants contained in them are infused into the tissues and fluids where they help resist the oxidant invasions.
Curative Power of Raw Foods
Hippocrates(460-357BC),the father of medicine, once said “let food be thy medicine and let medicine be thy food.”The former part of the sentence is for the sick whereas the latter is for the healthy.Hippocrats fully believed that natural foods have unlimited power to sustain health and restore it when lost.
The adoption of raw eating can thus free mankind from all diseases. Raw foods contain all the essential vitamins, minerals, trace elements and other constituents, whereas it is present in small amounts in refined and cooked foods.

Keeping Fit

Keeping fit is necessary for a healthy life. Most people come to learn this after falling ill or getting some complication that can only be fixed through exercising.A few people adopt it for it's real benefits.
Exercising should be a way of life,as natural as eating and drinking. The sooner we get our bodies used to working out the better. One thing is for sure, the benefits of a daily work out schedule are much more than having no schedule at all.
In this ever evolving society, fitness has been endorsed by doctors, scientists and the world at large as a necessary component of a healthy life. This has not only created business opportunities but it has also led to obsessions i.e. the obsessions of young girls with maintaining a slim figure whereas men are obsessed with having muscles. Here are some of the exercise programs that are common in our society:

Yoga - This is a whole body fitness regime from ancient India. It was created thousands of years ago by the sages to keep physical as well as mental fitness maintained and improving. It includes various postures and breathing techniques to calm the body. This is also a step to increase connection with spiritual aspects of the self.

Pilates Classes - This is similar to Yoga in its approach to fitness. They help you improve body posture; strengthen core muscles and work to strengthen overall the body. The main emphasis is given on strengthening muscles and body balancing.

Weight Loss - As obesity is growing, more and more people are aware of weight loss benefits. Gyms are offering many weight loss exercise programs on demand. This helps to reduce weight and helps a return to healthy living. These programmes may include cardio exercise, fat and calorie burning exercise, body toning exercises and workouts for strengthening muscles.

Body Toning Programs - These help you achieve a flat and firm stomach, buttocks, thighs, and toned muscles. These exercises are generally done lying on a mat and work well.

Tai-Chi and Karate Programs - Earlier these were considered for self-defence only, but now they are important workouts to strengthen muscles and tone-up your body. They offer exercise through the dynamic of physical combat that serves both the body and mind.

Swimming - This has been a great way of gaining health for ages. This is a whole body exercise which strengthens your body and is a lot of fun in the water. Every one enjoys swimming, and its good for every one of all ages. This is often helpful for people suffering from back pain or arthritis.

Cycling - This is also a good exercise for those who cannot take up heavy exercise. It allows you to maintain the level of speed and effort thats right for your own pace. This firms up muscles in legs and improves heart and lung functionality, a great fitness program for all, especially for ladies, and elders.

9 tips for your fitness toolbox:

Tip 1) TUMMY TONER

In addition to your workout regime, eat smaller portions. Your stomach is only about as large as your fist. So no need to stuff yourself with a large plate full of food.

Tip 2) TRY A TRAINER

Get advice or help from a trainer from time to time. Some online trainers are pretty affordable like around $2 week at eDiets.com. Or search your favorite online engine for free fitness forums and chat away.

Tip 3) PRACTICE YOUR POSTURE

Practice improving your posture daily, no matter whether you are sitting at your work desk, sitting at home in the family room or at the table, or standing and walking.

Stand up straight! Chest out and up. Shoulders back. Keep good posture.

Tip 4) VARIETY

Vary your routine during the week. Alternate days that you do cardio work on days when you don't do your other workouts.

Tip 5) ROUTINE

Also vary your routine. Research shows that a body can adapt to the same routine over a 4 to 6 week time frame. When you vary the routine, the body works harder, trying to adapt once again. At least increase the intensity or amount of sets you do. But "change" something.

Tip 6) WARMING UP & COOLING DOWN

Don't forget to warm up with some stretches before diving into your exercises in both cardio and strength training. You only need about 5 to 8 minutes. And target the muscle groups that you'll be using.

A warm-up period helps your body by passing along lots of blood, full of nutrients, to areas that are about to be exercised, resulting in the warming up of the muscles and the lubrication of the joints. No matter whether you are working out at home, in a fitness center or outdoors, regardless of weather, you need to warm up before beginning all exercise activities in order to prepare your body for your workout. So improve your performance and reduce your risk of injury with a warm-up period.

The period of 5 to 10 minutes at the end of your workout is the cool-down period. It allows time to lower your heart rate before you dash back off to work or other activities after your workout sessions, and reduces your risk of muscle soreness and injury that could come from your workout. This cool-down period should include 5 minutes of cardio exercise like stationary biking or walking, and should proceed at a reduced pace from your previous exercise activities. At the end, you should focus on about 5 minutes of slow, focused stretching, when your breathing goes back to where it was before your workout.

Tip 7) FOCUS

From Aesop to the old Kung-Fu movie, here's a tip: focus on the muscle group you are working on during your workout, Grasshopper. Look at a wall if necessary, to maintain your concentration and proceed slow and steady.

Tip 8) KEEP A JOURNAL

Keep a diary, journal or some type of record of your progress. Note which exercises you're using for which muscle groups, the number of repetitions and intensity. Track your diet here, too, if you'd like. Then set goals for yourself and update them regularly.

Tip 9) R&R

Don't forget that "All work and no play…" saying. Rest and relax. Work different muscle groups on alternate days.

Important Do's and Dont's:
-Before starting to work out make sure you get a full physical from your doctor and a letter stating it is ok for you to do physical activity. Many gym and aerobic centers will require this before letting you start.
-Depending on how long it has been since you last did regular exercise it is recommended that you start off slow and gradually build up your workout to harder levels.
-It is generally recommended to start off at the gym with just the treadmill and the lifecycle for the first week or 2. This is to wake the muscles up and to slowly get you prepared for a harder workout.
-You will generally want to find a speed on the treadmill that is a pace you can keep up with little discomfort and do it for 20 minutes. After this take a 5 minute break, stretch a little and have a drink of water, then go back and increase the speed just a bit then do another 20.
-Remember that pushing yourself too far is taking a gamble that you may not be able to live with. In a casino you can put everything you have on the roulette table and maybe you win and maybe you lose, but in the gym if you push too hard you can die, so take things slowly.
-Many people make the mistake of getting back into an exercise program and going all gung ho an trying to get back in shape in just one hour, well let me tell you this will not work. The only thing this will do is make you very sore the next day and you will not be able to workout that day, and it will make you lose interest fast in the gym. Discomfort in ok pain is not.
-Depending on how long it has been since you last worked out, I recommend working out 4 or 5 days a week. This may seem like a lot but if you were trying to win a poker tournament you would go to a casino or an online casino and poker room to practice almost every day right? So you will have to do the same with the gym.
-Working out 5 days a week does not necessarily mean you have to go to the gym every day. I recommend the gym 3 times a week and the other day or 2 you can just go for a long fast paced walk around your neighborhood. Try to vary the things you do so that you do not work out the same parts of your body 2 days in a row.
-Most professionals will tell you that if you work out your arms and chest on a Monday do not exercise those muscles again for at least 48 hours. This is to give the muscles time to heal and grow. It is this straining and resting of the muscle that makes it grow not just the working it out. If all you did every day was work the same muscle group in a few days the muscle would be more likely to tear in a painful experience and the only thing you will be able to do for several months will be playing in an online casino from your laptop in bed.
-You should consult your gym administrator before taking up any exercise program. You should discuss any health issues with him/her in detail before signing up for a program.
The lives of big personalities and successful icons have been seen to have fitness branded in their tight schedules. The late Aaliyah was famous for doing push ups every day hence her flat belly; The president of the U.S.A. has been seen to engage in exercises; Most of the videos of famous musicians are filled with scenes of people working out. Moreover,a work out program has been seen to help convicted felons in directing their anger and frustrations elsewhere, hence the popular gyms that are part of our penitentiaries.
The benefits derived from exercising range from helping with the good flow of blood, facilitating the right intake of water, strengthening muscles, releasing tension, maintaining youthfulness and the list goes on.You can only enjoy the rewards by trying it out and i assure you it is worth it.Like i always say:"A work out each day keeps the tensions at bay."

What Is Acne?

Acne occurs when hair follicles are clogged by dead skin cells. Hair follicles produce an oil called sebum. If this oil builds up in the clogged pore it becomes infected, and the hair follicle becomes inflamed. If the follicle bursts, the infected matter inside the pores spreads across the skin, infecting the surrounding area and creating new pimples.
There are a number of ways one can stumble upon acne. One of the common ways are through inheritance from parents, one's lifestyle i.e.what you eat, what you use,or generally how you live and hormonal changes .Before undergoing any treatments to prevent acne or buying products to treat the skin disease, you must first know the primary cause of acne, especially your acne.
Hormonal Changes:Hormonal changes occur in our bodies at different points of our lives.Although hormonal changes mostly happen during adolescent period, these can also be observed on pregnant women. Moreover, acne breakout is also a sign for most women that their menstrual period is about to start.Hormonal changes may increase Androgen, a hormone present in both men and women.Once the oil ducts are triggered, all parts of the body will start to produce natural oil. Eighty percent of people with increased amount of androgen based on a study are likely to have average to serious acne breakout according to their lifestyle.
Lifestyle:A person's lifestyle could determine the presence of acne. One big factor that can highly influence your skin is the way you live your life on a daily basis. Acne can also breakout aside from getting dull and dry skin, by drinking alcohol and smoking cigarettes. In addition, pimples, blackheads and different kinds of acne may accrue due to lack of execise and insufficient diet. If you have low levels of Vitamin E and Vitamin A in your body, it's time to take these vitamins found in fruits, vegetables and capsules.
Cosmetics: The excessive use of cosmetics especially for women can clog the pores of the skin causing acne.It is alright to use cosmetics, provided that they must not forget to wash their face before going to bed.In case the use of makeup and other cosmetics are necessary, noncomedogenic products are advised to be used. These are makeup products that do not block the pores. This includes lotion, facial moisturizers and skin creams.
Types of Acne
Acne Vulgaris:Acne vulgaris is the most common form of the condition. "Vulgaris" does not mean "vulgar;" it means "common." It affects approximately 90% of all adolescents, and 50% of adult women. Acne vulgaris is what most people think of when they think of spots and zits. It is a clogging of the hair follicles that leads to unsightly, and sometimes painful, skin lesions and pimples. It ranges in degree from mild to severe and, at its most severe, it can cause scarring.
Acne conglobata : A rare form that usually affects males, acne conglobata covers the back, chest, and buttocks with pustules and nodules, which often connect under the skin. Because of this tendency to connect, severe bacterial infection is possible, as well as extensive scarring. Medical attention is required.
Acne cosmetica : As the name implies, it is triggered by topical make-up. Characterized by small pink bumps, acne cosmetica is usually quite mild, with little chance of scarring.
Acne fulminans : A rare and extreme form of acne conglobata, acne fulminans almost always infects males. Symptoms include a sudden onset of pustules and nodules, infected nodules, fever, joint pain, and possible loss of weight or appetite. Acne fulminans is a serious condition and requires prompt medical attention.
Acne medicamentosa : It is caused by reactions to medicine or drugs. Women often experience acne medicamentosa when starting or ending birth control pills. Steroids and testosterone have also been implicated.
Acne rosacea : It is not true acne, but rather an inflammation of the face, neck or chest that results in red, bumpy, oily skin. Acne rosacea usually appears in people aged 30 to 60. It often begins as a short-term condition that can become chronic and cause facial scarring if not treated. Acne rosacea is often accompanied by acne vulgaris. For more info, click here ---> Acne rosacea treatment
Comedonal acne : Acne characterized by whiteheads and blackheads, without other forms of skin lesions.
Comedones : Enlarged, plugged hair follicles. If the comedone is under the skin, it's a whitehead. If it breaks the surface of the skin, it's a blackhead.
Cyst : Similar to a pustule, a cyst is an inflamed, pus-filled lesion that goes deep into the skin, and can cause pain and scarring.
Cystic acne : One of the most severe forms of acne, cystic acne occurs when the infected contents of a pustule or pimple erupts beneath the skin, rather than on the surface. The body's natural defenses then try to fight the infection, leading to swelling and pain. Cystic acne often causes facial scarring. While it usually occurs spontaneously, cystic acne can be caused by scratching and picking at pimples. Often accutane comes to rescue in this case.
Macule : A temporary red area that is the result of a healing lesions. When macules are massed in an area they make the skin look an angry red.
Nodule : These are large, solid and often painful skin lesions that are buried deep in the skin layers.
Papules : Small, tender pink bumps on the skin.
Pustules : Also called pimples, pustules are inflamed, pus-filled comedones, often red around their edges.
Preventive Measures
Though there are many recommended measures one can take against acne, here are some of the most simple and basic elements:
Follow a gentle approach. Wash gently, and dab your skin clean. You're trying to remove excess oil produced by your skin pores; scrubbing hard will actually force the oil and dead skin cells back into the pores. You can use the assorted acne products that clean the skin, but avoid those products that claim to dry out your skin. Your skin needs moisture and, without it, your pores just produce even more oil.
Changing your diet:Oily foods and junk are one of the leading causes of acne. Moreover,a defeciency in vitamins A and E are other factors.Eat non greasy foods and most importantly maintain a diet rich in Vitamins E and A i.e. vegetables and fruits.
Safflower Oil:Fresh safflower oil is a good skin moisturizer. This can be used to heal vulnerable lesions that are a issue of acne. It won't clog and annoy your pores as it is a easy character of oil.
Tooth Paste:Applying tooth paste is a home remedy which has proven to work in most cases. The toothpaste's main constituent, peroxide, dries up and remedies the acne. Simply splash a small measure on the acne after cleansing your face. Simply be sure not to utilize it to open wounds or popped out acne.
Teatreeoil:The good attributes of tea tree oil run from being antibacterial drug, cleansing and anti-fungal which realise it a strategic cure for acne induced by bacteria. Pure tea tree oil is really powerful so you need to cut it with water initial. Apply it to the acne utilising clean cotton.

The Desiderata

Go placidly amid the noise and the haste,
and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible, without surrender,
be on good terms with all persons.
Speak your truth quietly and clearly;
and listen to others,
even to the dull and the ignorant;
they too have their story.
Avoid loud and aggressive persons;
they are vexatious to the spirit.

If you compare yourself with others,
you may become vain or bitter,
for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.
Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble;
it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.

Exercise caution in your business affairs,
for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is;
many persons strive for high ideals,
and everywhere life is full of heroism.
Be yourself. Especially do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love,
for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment,
it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years,
gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.
But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline,
be gentle with yourself.
You are a child of the universe
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God,
whatever you conceive Him to be.
And whatever your labors and aspirations,
in the noisy confusion of life,
keep peace in your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

Never Give Up Poem

When things go wrong, as they sometimes will,
When the road you’re trudging seems all uphill,
When the funds are low and the debts are high,
And you want to smile, but you have to sigh,
When care is pressing you down a bit,
Rest, if you must, but don’t you quit.
Life is queer with its twists and turns,
As every one of us sometimes learns,
And many a failure turns about,
When he might have won had he stuck it out;
Don’t give up though the pace seems slow–
You may succeed with another blow.
Often the goal is nearer than,
It seems to a faint and faltering man,
Often the struggler has given up,
When he might have captured the victor’s cup,
And he learned too late when the night slipped down,
How close he was to the golden crown.
Success is failure turned inside out–
The silver tint of the clouds of doubt,
And you never can tell how close you are,
It may be near when it seems so far,
So stick to the fight when you’re hardest hit–
It’s when things seem worst that you must not quit.

The Power Of Positive Thinking

The Oxford English Dictionary defines optimism as having "hopefulness and confidence about the future or successful outcome of something; a tendency to take a favourable or hopeful view."Unlike optimal thinking which is realistic in nature, being optimistic means one expects the best possible outcome from any given situation. This is usually referred to in psychology as dispositional optimism. However, some scholars beg to differ. They prefer to refer to optimisim as the way one explains life events-The explanatory style.
Another issue is what are the factors causing the positive attitude in life.Although it is still debatable whether it is hereditary, there is a consensus among a larger part of the scientific elite that it has to do more with social factors and little with biological factors. The hereditary argument is reasonable based on traits like intelligence and temperament which come out clearly in a positive minded person and which have genetic/hereditary explanations.Optimism may also be linked to health.
The opposite of optimism is pessimism. Then there is "panglossianism" which describes baseless optimism of the sort exemplified by the beliefs of Pangloss from Voltaire's Candide, which place emphasis on free will. The phrase "panglossian pessimism" has been used to describe the pessimistic position that, since this is the best of all possible worlds, it is impossible for anything to get any better.
Positive thinking is a mental attitude that feeds the mind with thoughts that are conductive to overall success.Mind positioning towards the best things in life.Anticipation of joy, health and a successful outcome of every situation and action.Recall the saying "be careful what you wish for,"and so it is with positive thinking.
Attitudes are contagious and could affect the general mood of an individual. Most people prefer being around positive people, since they are less likely to dampen their spirits in trying times. People are more disposed to help us if we are positive, and they dislike and avoid anyone portraying negativity.
Negative attitude has it's effects on one's general wellbeing.Negative minds bring up negative and unhappy moods and actions. When the mind is negative, poisons are released into the blood, which cause more unhappiness and negativity. This is the way to failure, frustration and disappointment. It could also have some health repercussions.
There are several ways you can take up a positive attitude. It's not easy but it is attainable. One needs to be fully disciplined and committed to get the best out of a positive oriented way of life.
1.Take affirmirtive action and walk your talk.Don't just maintain blind faith.Faith without work is dead.
2.Affirm to yourself and get yourself to believe that each moment is perfect regardless of it's outcome.Accept defeat just like you embrace success.Let them be two identical entities with different implications. The one giving you timeless lessons and the other rewarding you for your efforts.

3. Count your blessings.Make do with what you have and utilise the resources available to you and you will rarely drift in to the desperate mode of the man in need.Internalise the idea that "to each his own" and we ought to accept the hand that fate deals to us.

4.Always maintain your a sense of humour.Humour is good for your overallhealth as it lightens your countenance and relaxes your body.It also triggers the right hormones in the body thus enabling us to stay lively and healthy.

5. Believe that you are the architect of your destiny. No one can take your passionate future from you except for you! Create your life authentically. As long as there's still breath in your body, there is no end to how much you can accomplish in a lifetime. The concept of thinking big is all about enjoying your work, which would lead to celebrate a discovery that is born within your hands. Watch everything flow into place with perfect, passionate precision.
6."Blessed is the man who walketh not in the counsel of the wicked.":Psalms 1:1.I would also recommend checking your company.Hang around those that bring out the best in you.Positive minded individuals or people with fruitful thoughts and avoid company that will take you on a self idolisation trip. This is where you concentrate on what you don't have and compare yourself with others, one of the greatest injustice that man can do to themselves.
7.Beware of what you read, watch and your activities.Read inspirational and motivational books like the bible, watch programmes that deal with cooping with life situations, for instance,DR PHIL or OPRAPH;listen to inspirational music.Remember what gets in your head or the brain input equals the general body output.Your mental food reflects your body maturity, therefore,"watch what you eat".
I recommend "the power of positive thinking" by Victor Naaman for a comprehensive picture of the power of positive thinking;i would also advice one to go for poetic inspiration from the desiderata by Max Ehrmann .
Even if i wanted i wouldn't summarise this topic with these few ideas. It is a large concept and with in depth implications. It is a field of study and a topic of research with numerous findings. The important thing is that it is the right way to live our lives.Be positive, think positive, live positive and live the rest to the forces that control our destiny.

ANXIETY

Worrying is a normal part of human nature. Worrying implies an incessant goading or attacking that drives one to desperation. It could also imply mental distress or agitation resulting from concern usually for something impending or anticipated.
Worry or anxiety has been duly addressed in religions. Most faiths discourage the emotion based on the belief that their god has got it covered. For instance Christians are urged in the bible not to entertain this attitude-“Take no thought of your life, what ye shall eat or what ye shall drink nor yet for your body, what you shall put on. Which of you by taking thought could add one cubit unto his stature?”
Worrying in essence is like borrowing trouble from the future. Identifying its presence and effects is the easiest part. The challenge is to quell it. Here are a number of ways to minimize the amount of time you spend on brooding:
(i)Dismiss the worry-A famous author wrote:”My life has been a series of catastrophes-most of which never happened.”
Most of the things we worry about eventually amount to nothing. It pays to question your fears and weigh their chances of happening.
(ii)Delay your worries-Don’t worry ahead of time, just keep a positive mind and but brace yourself for any outcome. The wait and see approach –wait until there’s something to worry about.
(iii)Confront your fear-Do some constructive worrying by answering a few questions:
What‘s the worst that can happen?
How likely is it?
What would I do to handle it?
What would I do to prevent it or prepare for it?
Answering these questions gives you a wild card to present when things go haywire. Therefore, you feel secure and reassured. You can face health, financial or relationship fears by creative worrying.
(iv)Beware instead of being fearful-Denial and complacency can be dangerous but the solution is being conscious. The difference is that worry is not accompanied by useful action. Its problem oriented but concern is solution oriented i.e. constructive and rational process.
(v)Control what you can and leave what you can’t-If you can take care of it do it but if you have no control over your anxiety, don’t bother yourself. Either way, worry leads to depression.
(vi)Distract yourself-Get engaged in some enjoyable activity.
(vii)Vent-They say misery loves company. Talk or share your worries.
(viii)Be philosophical-Philosophers have their way round situations by the way they theorize everything. Tell yourself, whatever will be, will be.
(ix)Laugh-A great sense of humour could relieve one of much heart ache. Joke about your worries.
(x)Relax-Try relaxation exercises to calm you down.
Relaxation is about focusing the mind on physical sensations at that moment. Start with ten minutes a day. As you get used to it, you could increase your meditation time. This focus is quite a discipline and in time you become relaxed.
The bottom line is that worry is an unnecessary emotion that we can’t afford in the race of life. To entertain it is to accept the possibility of failure in every aspect of our lives.

A HEALTHY BACK

The three weakest links in the body are the neck, knees and back. If any of these three parts experience any problems, your alert level should be raised.
Almost everything we do affects our back. Back pains occur in different points of our life. Back pain can be caused by being overweight, performing repetitive movements, sitting, standing, stress and improper lifting procedures.

TIPS ON KEEPING A HEALTHY BACK

1.    Keep a  good posture. Slouching puts  stress on your back.

2.   Keep a healthy weight. Being overweight puts stress on the back.

3.    Healthy eating. We need calcium and vitamin D among other nutrients to keep bones in tip top position.

4.   Stop  smoking. Studies suggest that smokers are more likely to go through disc problems.

5.    Strengthen your abdominal and back muscles. By keeping your abdominal muscles strong and maintaining good posture, you will be creating a natural "girdle" around your body to give your back good support.

6.    Keep the spine flexible with yoga and gentle exercises. It's been said that a flexible spine is the secret ingredient  to a youthful body.

7.    Exercise regularly to keep your body fit and strong. Many back injuries happen when people who are not active play a vigorous game of football or softball on the weekend. Exercise  for 15 minutes at least three times a day.

8.    Reduce stress. Tense people often have tense backs. Get enough sleep, exercise, be positive and practice deep breathing regularly.

9.   Stay comfortable. Avoid restrictive clothing and high heeled shoes which can put stress on your back.

10.    If you stand for long periods of time, raise one foot on a box to lessen the strain on your back. Check your posture and try to maintain the natural curve in your spine.  Take frequent breaks if possible.
If you must sit for long periods of time, get up every 30 minutes, walk around and do a few stretches.

12.    If you work at a computer, adjust your chair so your elbows to wrists are parallel to the floor and the screen is at eye level.

13.    Use your legs when lifting. Bend at the knees and straighten your legs as you lift the object. This puts less strain on your back.

We often don't appreciate a healthy back until we're laid up with a bad one. Take a proactive approach to a strong, healthy and pain-free back
However, there are persistent signs and symptoms that if exhibited, are actually the causes of a more serious ailment other than just pain in the back.

 SIGNS AND SYMPTOMS
  • a high temperature (fever) of 38ºC (100.4ºF) or above
  • unexplained weight loss
  • inflammation or swelling of the back
  • constant back pain that does not ease after lying down or resting
  • pain that travels to your chest, or pain that is high up in your back
  • pain down your legs and below the knees
  • a recent trauma or injury to your back
  • loss of bladder control
  • inability to pass urine
  • loss of bowel control
  • numbness around your genitals, buttocks or back passage
There are certain points in our lives when we should take heed of back pains.

Alert Warnings
  1.  you are under 20 or over 55 years old you have taken steroids for a few months
  2. you misuse drugs
  3. you have or have had cancer
  4. you have a weakened immune system as a result of chemotherapy treatment or a medical condition, such as HIV or AIDS
